This was my second weekend living in Utah. I drove south and did the Death Hollow Loop via Boulder Mail Trail and the Escalante River. 30 miles over three days, about 10 a day. It was my first time hiking inside a canyon, my first time hiking miles through water, and my first time bringing Chacos on a hike since 2015. Usually I bring the rubber Birkenstocks for ultralight weight, but I knew I'd be wading through rivers for hours and Chacos were the right call.
This was also the first hike I filmed for YouTube. The scenery was totally different from anything I'd seen before. Fish everywhere in the water. No phone service the entire time. Even though it was short, Escalante ended up being one of my favorite hikes I've ever done.
