Mount Shasta was another PCT side quest, but unlike Whitney, you can't hike there from the trail. We hitched into the town of Mount Shasta, then hitched again to the base of the mountain. I was with my friend Kyle, trail name Vacuum, and two PCT hikers from Germany that we helped guide up.
We started the summit push around 3 AM and topped out around 10. All uphill, obviously. A ton of elevation gain but worth every step. Toward the top it got sketchy. We had to take our packs off and crawl through some cornices and crevices to make the final push. My second fourteener ever, and another reminder that the side quests are what make a thru-hike.
